Every casino SEO campaign starts with the same question: which searches should we be trying to rank for? Get the answer right and every page, link and piece of content pulls in the same direction. Get it wrong and you can spend months ranking for searches that never bring in a single depositing player.
This guide explains how we find and prioritise casino keywords for operators and affiliates.
Start with how players search
Casino searches fall into a handful of clear groups. Listing them out first stops you missing whole areas of demand:
- Game names. Searches for individual slots, live games and table games, often with “demo”, “free play” or “review” added.
- Game types. Slots, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker, bingo and live casino.
- Providers. Players who follow a favourite studio search for its name plus “slots” or “games”.
- Features. Megaways, jackpots, bonus buys and similar mechanics.
- Payment methods. Casinos that accept a particular e-wallet, card or bank transfer.
- Offers. Welcome offers, free spins and no wagering promotions.
- Comparisons. “Best online casinos”, “new casino sites” and similar searches, which are especially important for affiliates.
- Brand searches. Your brand name plus “login”, “app”, “review” or “bonus”.
Understand the intent behind each search
Two searches can look similar and want completely different things. “Roulette rules” is someone learning the game. “Live roulette” is someone ready to play. Look at what already ranks for each keyword. If the first page is full of guides, a guide is what Google thinks searchers want. If it is full of casino lobbies, a commercial page has the best chance.
Matching your page type to the intent Google already rewards is one of the simplest ways to improve your chances of ranking.
Where to find casino keywords
- Google Search Console. The searches you already appear for, including ones where you sit on page two or three and could move up with some work.
- SEO tools such as Semrush or Ahrefs, for search volumes, difficulty scores and ideas you have not thought of.
- Competitor gap analysis. The keywords your competitors rank for that you do not.
- Google itself. Autocomplete suggestions, “People also ask” boxes and related searches at the bottom of the results page.
- Your own data. Site search, customer support questions and the games your players actually play.
Prioritise by value, not just volume
The biggest keywords are rarely the best place to start. They are dominated by sites with huge authority, and they can take years to win. Score each keyword group on three things:
- Value. How likely is someone searching this to sign up and deposit?
- Difficulty. How strong are the pages currently ranking?
- Fit. Do you have the games, offers or expertise to create the best page for it?
Lower-volume searches with clear commercial intent and weaker competition often bring in players far sooner than the head terms. Wins there also build the authority you need to compete for bigger keywords later.
Map every keyword to one page
Once you have your list, assign each keyword group to a single page. A simple spreadsheet works well, with a column for the keyword group, the target page, the search intent and the current ranking.
The most common mistake we see is several pages chasing the same keyword. Google then has to choose between them, and often ranks none of them well. One strong page beats three weak ones.
Keep the research up to date
Casino search changes constantly. New games launch every week, providers release new mechanics and offers come and go. Review your keyword map every few months, and set up a routine for adding new game releases quickly, because searches for a popular new slot often peak soon after launch. Sportsbook keywords work differently, because demand follows the fixture list rather than game releases. Our sportsbook SEO calendar maps the key events for 2026 and 2027.
Turn keywords into rankings
Keyword research is only the first step. Once you know what to target, the site structure, content and links all need to support it. We cover the full process in How to Rank an Online Casino in Google.
