Casino keywords are some of the most competitive search terms on the web. The first page is usually held by large operators and affiliates with years of authority behind them, and Google holds gambling sites to a higher standard than most. Ranking a casino is still very possible, but it takes a methodical approach rather than a few quick fixes.
This is the process we follow when we take on a new casino SEO campaign, in the order we work through it.
1. Fix the technical foundations first
There is little point creating content or building links if Google cannot crawl and index your site properly. Casino sites are especially prone to technical problems because they are large, change constantly and rely heavily on JavaScript.
The issues we find most often are:
- Crawl waste from game filters. Filtering by provider, feature or theme can create thousands of near-identical URLs that soak up Google’s attention.
- Content Google cannot see. Game lobbies that only load after JavaScript runs can leave search engines looking at an empty page.
- Slow templates. Heavy game thumbnails, tracking scripts and third-party widgets slow down the pages that matter most.
- Multi-market mix-ups. Missing or incorrect hreflang tags can lead to the wrong country version ranking, or to versions competing with each other.
A technical SEO audit gives you a prioritised list of fixes. Start there.
2. Map keywords to how players actually search
Players rarely search for “online casino” and nothing else. They search for specific games, providers, game types, payment methods and offers. A good keyword map groups these searches and assigns each group to one page:
- Game names, such as individual slot titles.
- Providers, for players who follow a favourite studio.
- Game types, such as slots, roulette, blackjack and live casino.
- Payment methods, such as casinos that accept a particular e-wallet.
- Bonus and promotion terms.
- Brand searches, including your brand name plus “review”, “login” or “app”.
The rule that matters most is one main topic per page. If several pages target the same search, they compete with each other and none of them ranks as well as one strong page would.
3. Structure the site like a lobby Google can understand
Your site structure tells Google which pages are most important. For most casinos, that means clear hub pages for each game type and provider, with individual game pages sitting underneath them. For example:
- /slots/ linking to individual slot pages
- /live-casino/ linking to roulette, blackjack and game show pages
- /providers/ linking to a page for each studio
Link between related pages, add breadcrumbs, and make sure your most commercial pages are only a click or two from the homepage. Pages buried deep in the site, or only reachable through search filters, rarely rank.
4. Make game and provider pages genuinely useful
Most casino game pages are an embedded game and a short description copied from the provider. Because hundreds of other sites use the same text, Google has no reason to rank yours above theirs.
A game page earns its place when it answers the questions a player has before they play, such as:
- Who made the game and when it was released.
- The return to player figure and volatility, as published by the provider.
- Key features, bonus rounds and how they work.
- Similar games the player might enjoy.
Written in your own words, with your own screenshots, a page like this is far more likely to rank than a copy of the provider’s text.
5. Treat bonus pages as long-term assets
A common mistake is creating a new URL for every promotion and deleting it when the offer ends. Every time that happens, any rankings and links the page earned are lost.
Instead, keep evergreen URLs for your main offer types, such as your welcome offer, and update the details on the same page as promotions change. Keep the key terms clear and close to the offer, and follow the advertising rules in each market you operate in. In the UK, that means the rules set by the Gambling Commission and the advertising codes enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority.
6. Show Google you can be trusted
Gambling is what Google calls a “Your Money or Your Life” topic, so trust signals carry real weight. Make sure your site clearly shows:
- Licensing information for each market.
- Responsible gambling tools and support links.
- Who owns and operates the site, with real contact details.
- Clear, accessible terms and conditions.
- Real authors with relevant expertise on your guides and articles.
7. Earn links the right way
Links are still one of the strongest ranking signals, and in casino search they often decide who reaches the top three. The quality of each link matters far more than the number. A link from a relevant site with real readers is worth more than dozens from sites that exist only to sell links.
We cover what to look for in our guide to what makes a good gambling backlink. The safest routes are usually manual outreach to relevant websites and digital PR campaigns that earn coverage on news sites. Find out more about our casino and gambling link building.
8. Measure what matters
Rankings are useful, but they are not the goal. Track the numbers that show whether SEO is bringing in players:
- Clicks and impressions by page group in Google Search Console, such as slots, live casino and promotions.
- Rankings for your most valuable keywords, checked weekly rather than daily.
- Sign-ups and first-time deposits from organic search, using your analytics and affiliate or CRM data.
Review the data every month, double down on what is working and fix what is not.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Building links before fixing technical problems.
- Copying game descriptions from providers or other sites.
- Deleting promotion pages when offers end.
- Several pages targeting the same keyword.
- Buying cheap link packages from sites with no real audience.
- Expecting results in weeks. Casino SEO is a long-term channel.
